Welcome To A New Year With Our Section!

By Frank Johnson
Deputy City Attorney, City of Gaithersburg

September is traditionally the start of a new year for the MSBA, and as newsletter editor and Section Council member I’m pleased to welcome everyone. Our new chair, Elizabeth Adams, has already set in place our first Section Council meeting of the year to begin planning for the new year, primarily including programs and potential networking events.

I also want to welcome our two new members – Sonia Cho, former Assistant Attorney General and now a member of the State Board of Contract Appeals, and Tom Yeager, who serves county and municipal governments on the Eastern Shore. Tom is a former Section Council member who is well known for his work and involvement, and we’re glad to welcome both him and Sonia to our Section Council!

Our last program was the annual State and Local Government Law Institute, held virtually on Friday, June 2. During the day, we had panels speak to us on four topics.

Our Section’s work will continue this year in giving similar opportunities for insight, training, and education to Section members. One of the benefits of serving as a Section Council member is the chance not only to give back, generally, to the profession but also the chance to take part in this annual planning, especially to ensure that we make sure to cover topics of special interest.

Our Section also serves in other ways, including hosting this blog to which all are invited to comment, producing a quarterly newsletter, and keeping our webpage on the MSBA website with sample materials. The Section Council is always open for your ideas, especially for topics for the upcoming year, so don’t hesitate to email us.

Our Section Council will have at least four committees, including a program committee to take the lead in planning legal education and other networking events. We look forward to serving you over the next year!
